Technology for Marketing

Chris and I spent a morning at the Technology for Marketing & Advertising event this week www.t-f-m.co.uk. Interesting to see the new ways in which companies can interact with customers and providing better services. Lots of vendors showing how mail (electronic and traditional) can be better targeted with the use of data repositories. A distinct lack of GIS vendors at the event, despite geodemographics being an extremely powerful tool both for targeted marketing and improved customer services. Had a run through on one of our Group 1 tools Transpromo, targeted marketing has become quite sophisticated and more integrated than just bunging some leaflets into an envelope.

Also lots of hip marketeers with funky stands/graphics and too many buzzwords (not enough freebies – but I guess that’s cut backs for you).

Reminded me of this article I saw earlier this year.

Perhaps these web buzzwords should be on all of our radars? I know many already are.
Social…
Torrent
microblogging (you will soon be able to follow the Stratus team on tiwtter)
SaaS (hype or the golden goose?)
Blogger (a surprise…)
Affiliate program (the new trend in C2B marketing?)
Crowdsourcing (still popular with the mob)
Stratus ;)

More interesting perhaps is the old news…should we be using these terms less?
Web 2.0
Web 3.0 (Dead on arrival)
Web Service
SOA
Cloud computing (so pasee?)
API (yawn – where’s my hyperglobal colour t-shirt?)
Longtail (good, never liked it)
RSS (acronyms are never cool)
Semantic web (despite techies explaining to me 3 times I still don’t get it)
Folksonomy (tag is easier to say)

Stratus Connect Version 1.0 Launches!

I am very pleased to say that Stratus Connect version 1.0 has been completed and released. I know there is much anticipation around the Stratus suite and the release of our second component, and first Web Mapping application, within the suite is a significant milestone. Things have come a long way from the GDC acquisition and much talked “GeoPlatform 2″ applications. Today Stratus is realising that vision and more. Through usability practice, internationalisation and collaberation with other product teams the suite is now becoming well placed to deliver key solutions in today’s market place.

Mapping terms and conditions update Part II

Be sure to attend the showdown at noon (more likely to be @ 10.30 after coffee and biscuits) between Google and OS if you can. The MUGUKI will be hosting a special event that brings these two data providers together under 1 roof to discuss their TOS.

Event details

I hope to attend and will report back.

Mapping terms and conditions update

Hi,

In case you didn’t see the article in Directions magazine last week I thought I’d add a link so you can review. Certainly gives further food for thought, although there hasn’t been any substantial movement since last time we posted on the subject.

Obviously it would be wrong of me to mention how nice MapInfo data product “StreetPro” looks in the Stratus Connect tile server :-)

The Final Countdown

No, not a reference to Swedish “rock” (and I use the term loosely) band Europe.

It’s all gone quiet on the blog for a while, so I thought I would drop a quick update. Firstly thank you to all who attended the MUGUK user event last week in London. Sadly I was unable to attend the event, but those of you who did go got to see Stratus Connect running, as well as speak with Mark and a number of the team here at PBBI. I’ve spoken to a few of the team who could attend and feedback seemed very positive.

With that I’ve been working hard with the guys to focus on the final bits of development before we finally ship Stratus Connect out of the door. Engineering have a few days left to tidy things up and then the Gold CD’s will be cut. I wanted to let you all know that everything is on track and we’re very excited to be able to launch this product.

We’ll try and bring you some late screen shots, and admin console shots soon,

Thanks

Chris
